How This Learning Unfolds

What past cohorts have experienced, session after session

Every session follows the same rhythm: plant imagery, botanical signature, Bach's own words, and then live discussion where decades of clinical practice meet real, current questions from the group. We devote an entire hour to the exploration of each essence with the spaciousness that allows for new discovery.

No two cohorts study a flower quite the same way twice. Here's a taste of what tends to unfold in these sessions:

  • Two remedies that look nearly identical on paper have turned out, more than once, to be worlds apart in practice. Sessions regularly turn into a live, collaborative sorting-out of exactly where one ends and the other begins, the kind of nuance a short written description rarely holds.

  • A practitioner trained outside the Bach tradition once arrived with a use of a remedy that seemed to contradict what the room was discussing. She worked through it out loud with the group, and by the end of the session had found the thread connecting both readings, naming a distinction no one in the room had put into words before.

  • A single line from Dr. Bach's own writing, read aloud mid-session, brought a longtime practitioner to tears. She later said it was the first time in years she'd heard the exact thing she'd been struggling with actually named.

  • Even our facilitators, after decades of clinical use, have found themselves revising their own understanding mid-conversation, prompted by a question from the group or a plant detail neither had noticed before.

This is what no self-study program can replicate: real practitioners, live questions, and enough time immersed in the plant for the essence to speak its truth.

Meet the Plants

Clematis

These flowers turn into a multitude of spiraling light flying seeds.

Described as a foundational embodiment remedy, does the plant signature show us more about how it can be used in practice today?

Olive

The oldest documented Olive tree is estimated to be 3000-4000 years old.

Have you considered the Olive tree as a Mentor and Teacher? What is its special wisdom? How does this expand the ways we can use it?

Water Violet

This plant's leaves live literally suspended, receiving light under water.

What insight does this hint at for the Water Violet “type”?

Holly

Highly responsive to its environment, Holly responds to animals eating its leaves by growing more prickles.

What can this tell us, along with its symbolic and cultural significance, about more ways to use this essence?
wild rose

+ 4 more

  • Pine
  • Honeysuckle
  • Elm
  • Hornbeam

I am so grateful for this beautiful and in-depth exploration of the Bach Flower Essences. The way the material was presented provided me with a well-rounded understanding both through the plant attunements and the interactive sharing about each essence. It is always so interesting and invaluable to learn from other practitioners experiences with the flower essences. I also greatly appreciated learning more about Ricardo Orozco's insights and applications of the Bach Flower Essences and hope to have more opportunities to learn about the transpersonal application of the flowers essences in the future. Thank you very much to Ruth, Kathleen and Rochana for this wonderful course!

What Students Say About This Series

“I have loved diving deep into the Bach essences. I did a level one with the Nelson's company and it was so different. It is not even comparable to what you’re offering. This course is allowing us to dig deeply and understand each of the flowers and each of the remedies in a way that's just really, really important to this work. When I found you I was so excited like, “Oh my gosh, there's other people out there”. I couldn't believe it, even though I kind of knew. So thank you. Thank you all.”

Heather M.

“I've been working with flower essences for 39 years. I have 30-40 books and I've learned through reading the descriptions from different authors. I’ve also done some training including Bach. What I was missing was the relationship with the plants. Now I'm ready to have that relationship go deeper with the flower essences. I've had a relationship with them all these years, but now I feel like they're friends and they're living beings through this course — like I can really lean on them for myself and other people. So I get chills just talking about it. So thank you. I can't wait for the next one.”

K.S.

“My journey began with the Bach essences and I've done their training. I found this class added so much depth and aliveness. It illuminated these essences in a far deeper way than even what I learned at the Bach Level III training. It's really brought it into the present, and I feel much more attuned with the plants now. I hope that you'll do the rest of remedies like this because it's been a game-changer for me. You have created something special and drew us all in. And it's just been amazing for me.”

The Bach Flower Learning Program (BFLP) is a Free self-study course by Julian Barnard of Healing Herbs, Ltd., who has graciously allowed us to host it on our site and use it as foundational training. This course, Bach Flowers in Contemporary Practice, is a live cohort that will guide students through select lessons of the BFLP and then discuss and build on those teachings with information gained from decades of clinical experience.
No, we're not connected to the Bach Centre in any way.
Yes. Due to regulatory restriction of the term "remedy" for products in the United States, "essence" is generally used instead. The exception is the brand name "Bach Original Flower Remedies" for the product produced by Nelson's. Therefore we tend to use both "Bach flower essence" and "Bach flower remedy" interchangeably, so that it's understood we're talking about both.. Whatever the term used, these refer to the same type of substance, regardless of brand.
Replays of Bach Flowers in Contemporary Practice Parts One, Two, and Three are available in our course catalog. You can purchase individually or in bundles.

Yes! Julian Barnard's Bach Flower Learning Program is and will always be Free on our site and you can access it any time, regardless if you purchase this course.
We offer a certificate of completion for taking this course, and will be offering a further practitioner training in 2027.
